I have lived in Bristol for the last 6 years, having moved from a village nr Bridgwater, Somerset.
Over the years I have played numerous sports including football, rugby (union/7s), hockey, badminton, table tennis. I have only in the last 4 years taken up running and cycling with the aim to complete a triathlon soon.
I also love getting tattoos and travelling, I have been all over the UK and some places Europe seeing different artists and meeting new people which helps give me a great perspective on the world and how we all live.

I have worked on Hinkley Point C for 4 years. I started working on the project as a ‘Technician’ – a technician is typically someone who is skilled using CAD (computer aided design) software. This mean that I was responsible for ‘drawing’ the design from the engineers on a computer. The software we used allowed us to create 3D designs of what needed to be built.
Since starting on Hinkley Point C I have progressed to leading designs, this means I was responsible for a team of engineers and technicians completing the design and helping them to resolve and problems while making sure that the client was happy with the design progress.

My Typical Day:
A Typical day for me involves getting up early so I can cycle to the office, I then have a coffee and catch up with anyone before looking at my emails and seeing what needs to be done, I often work with engineers in India who start work 4-5 hours before me so there is normally questions that need answering.
I would then normally look at the 3D models and see if there is anything that needs to be discussed with the Engineers/Technicians.
I then go for a walk with some friends at lunch and return to the office and help the team to complete the design reports before making sure everyone has enough work for the following few days and share any big problems that day with my manager

I live about 45-60 minutes from the office by bike, I try and ride different routes to and from work to keep my commute interesting. Sometimes I will ride in with friends as well, I really enjoy my cycle to work regardless of the weather because it helps separate my work life from my home life and gives me some peace. (I quite enjoy cycling in the rain).
While at work I normally have quite a few meetings and phone calls, the teams I work with are often from all over the UK and India and have different engineering back grounds some are Electrical engineers, Mechanical engineers, Architects, Structural engineers and Project Managers. The meetings are important because communication across the project teams is vital to ensure that we are all working together and produce a design that works.
I always have the 3D models open on my computer (we use a software package call Autodesk Navisworks) I really enjoy investigating the models and helping the team solve issues, problem solving is a key part of being an engineer and I really enjoy this element of my work.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I would use the money to spend time creating engaging content using animation and virtual reality tools and go into schools and to engage with pupils to help show them what I do on a daily basis.
