I am currently living in Poole working as a Civil Engineer. In my free time I enjoy playing hockey and tennis, as well as singing in choirs. I also enjoy travelling and have visited a lot of Europe, Australia, China and the USA.

Growing up, I enjoyed most subjects at school from the sciences, maths and the creative subjects. I grew up on the island of Jersey and enjoyed playing lots of sport, including netball, hockey, tennis and touch rugby.I also enjoyed music, playing flute and piano, as well as singing as a soloist and as part of a choir. I was part of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain for six years and have performed in numerous BBC Proms and have even recorded an album at Abbey Road Studios.

I have recently started a new role as a Build Assurance Engineer, installing the full fibre network for Bechtel as part of the CityFibre Team. During my degree I had an ICE QUEST Scholarship with the construction company, Laing O’Rourke. As part of Laing O’Rourke I have worked on numerous projects building the Hinkley Worker’s Campus, the £350 million Grange University Hospital and the nuclear power station Hinkley Point C. I was able to have multiple opportunities at university through receiving the Ford Women in STEM Award, the Royal Academy of Engineering Leaders Scholarship and the UK Construction and Engineering Undergraduate of the Year.

My Typical Day:
I wake up at 7am and have my breakfast, before getting to work at 8am. I will check my emails and have meetings throughout the day with the contractors and the rest of the client team, as well as spending time out in the field inspecting and checking the fibre that the contractors are installing in the Poole and Christchurch area. I then go home around 5/5:30pm.

Education:
Jersey College for Girls – GCSE’s and A-Levels.
University of Bath – MEng Civil Engineering degree.

Qualifications:
GCSE’s: 10A* and 1A** in Further Maths.
A levels: A*AAA in Maths, Physics, Music and Further Maths.
MEng Civil Engineering (with a year in industry) First Class hons.

Work History:
Site Engineer – Part of the construction team building the foundations and drainage for the Hinkley Workers Campus.
Placement Engineer – Part of the construction team building the £350million Grange University Hospital in Wales. I spent 6 months managing a £3million package installing bathroom pods and then 6 months as a Construction Manager managing two floors of the internal fit-out of the ward block.
Site Engineer – Part of the construction team building the Control Building at the nuclear power station, Hinkley Point C.

Current Job:
I have just started a new role as a Build Assurance Engineer with Bechtel as part of the CityFibre team, managing the contractor installing the full fibre network in the Poole and Christchurch area.
